Recognizing Service to Veterans

Earlier today, the Catholic Church concluded its conclave with a profound consensus: the election of the 166th successor of St. Peter, now Pope Leo XIV. As we continue to reflect on this historic moment, Hof Law extends gratitude not only to the College of Cardinals but also to those who quietly and faithfully serve the American military veteran community.

It is especially moving to recognize that His Holiness Pope Leo XIV is the son of a United States Navy veteran who served during World War II. That fact carries immense weight for all of us who advocate for and serve veterans and their families. It is a humbling reminder that among those whose lives are touched by institutions like the Department of Veterans Affairs or the City of New York's Department of Veterans’ Services are individuals—spouses, children, and grandchildren of warfighters—whose futures may reach the very heart of global faith and leadership.

To the countless public servants, contractors, and advocates who support military veterans and their dependents: thank you. Your work may feel unheralded at times, but it can ripple out in ways we cannot always foresee—perhaps even to the See of Peter.

May God bless Pope Leo XIV and all who serve the common good in quiet devotion and lasting impact.
