Greater St. Louis Metropolitan Area — Hof Law wishes to recognize and commend the extraordinary courage and presence of mind demonstrated by Ms. Hope Hoffman, the daughter of a Minnesota politician tragically shot in Brooklyn Park on Saturday morning. According to detailed reporting by The New York Times, Ms. Hoffman, who lives with spina bifida, swiftly called 9-1-1 during the crisis—an act that triggered an immediate police response to the Hortman home. That response, in turn, led to the law enforcement encounter that ultimately interrupted the shooter’s trajectory and prevented further harm.

Ms. Hoffman’s timely and decisive action is a powerful reminder that leadership in moments of crisis often comes from individuals with lived experience navigating adversity. As a person with access and functional needs, Ms. Hoffman exemplifies the type of resolve, perspective, and moral clarity that disability communities often develop through their unique journeys. At Hof Law, the firm is not at all surprised that a young woman with spina bifida was the one who stepped up in a moment of extreme exigency. Too often, society underestimates those with disabilities—yet here again, a member of the community showed strength and heroism when it mattered most.

Hof Law wishes to send the firm's deepest sympathies to the victims and all affected, and the firm's heartfelt admiration to Ms. Hoffman. From a Missouri-based firm to our neighbors in Minnesota: we are with you. We pray for your continued healing in the days and weeks ahead.
